Infiniti M LWB World Premiere at 2012 Beijing Auto Show.

The LWB M is 5.9 inches longer than the base car; as with most such rides, the majority of the extension is apportioned to rear passengers as additional legroom. The long-wheelbase model will be available with M25L or M35hL badges on its rump.

Under the hood, two different engines are available. The entry-level M25L has a 2.5-liter V6 with 232 hp (173 kW / 235 PS) and 187 lb-ft (253 Nm) of torque, while the M35hL uses a hybridized 3.5-liter V6 with 360 hp (240 kW / 365 PS) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque.

Infiniti announced it will launch in June the M35hL with another extended model, the M25L, tailored for Chinese customers.  The M25L, also with a 5.9-inch (150mm) wheelbase extension.

Infiniti M LWB World Premiere at 2012 Beijing International Auto Show

Infiniti today debuted its new Infiniti M LWB (Long Wheelbase version) at the 2012 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.

The Infiniti M35hL, also debuting at the Beijing Auto Show, is the hybrid version of the new M LWB, and demonstrates Infiniti technological expertise at fulfilling luxury car owners' demand for ample horsepower with a restrained thirst for gasoline in a luxury performance car. It features a 5.9-inch (150mm) longer wheelbase than the standard Infiniti M, which provides more space to the rear seats, and upgraded function configuration.

Meanwhile, Infiniti announced it will launch in June the M35hL with another extended model, the M25L, tailored for Chinese customers. The M25L, also with a 5.9-inch (150mm) wheelbase extension, continues Infiniti's legacy of exceptional power, beauty and performance.

The new Infiniti M LWB's world premiere in Beijing reaffirms the automaker's commitment to the Chinese market.

An Extended Body Without Comprise in Beauty

The Infiniti M LWB's 5.9 -inch (150mm) longer wheelbase enhances
roominess for passengers sitting in the rear. However, the extension doesn't disrupt Infiniti M's classic sports sedan signature. Drawing inspiration from the curvaceous Essence concept, the Infiniti M LWB has a decisively dynamic posture.

The distinctive rear-driven stance presents a strong sense of stability with properly applied weight on the rear tires and a well-finished deck design rendering obvious aerodynamic efficiency. The Infiniti M LWB also continues the automaker's signature double-arch grille.

Luxury Through and Through

The Infiniti M35hL show car's interior is finished in Java, similar to the regular production model, and features genuine Japanese White Ash trim with silver-powder. Driver and passengers are treated to upscale comfort, thanks to the premium semi-aniline leather seats with armrests and console side-pad covered by SOFILEZ, a proprietary material which is ultra-soft in feel and resistant to wear.

The space created by the wheelbase extension enables rear passengers to enjoy the comfort and versatility of added roominess. Other features designed to enhance the joy for rear passengers include rear seat entertainment displays; heated and reclining power rear seats; rear side and rear sunshades; reading light; and trunk and rear door auto closure. There are also separate audio and air conditioning controls for the rear passengers.

The Forest Air System creates a clean and fresh in-car environment by filtering out harmful elements and optimizing interior air control. Inside and outside odor is under the constant surveillance of the Auto Intake Control system. Once harmful or unpleasant odors are detected, the grape polyphenol filter acts to remove allergens and the PlasmaclusterÔ air purifier helps eliminates bacteria or micro-fibers to ensure clean air in the car. The moisture level is optimized when the air conditioner is on, while the varying breeze function provides natural air flow.

The entertainment hub centers around the tailor-made Bose® 5.1 studio surround sound system incorporating 16 speakers. On the road, the AudioPilot® adjusts the sound according to the speed and the Bose® (ANC) helps cancel noise in the cabin to create a cleaner background for the audio system.

Infiniti also offers drivers an advanced Infiniti Connection system, recently introduced in the United States on the new 2013 Infiniti JX luxury crossover, which provides full connectivity between the car and the service center. It is packed with features such as Theft Notification, Roadside Assistance, Emergency Call, and Destination Assistance.

The Powertrain That Delivers More and But Uses Less

The M35hL has been designed and engineered to add to, not take away from, the driving experience, a key part of any Infiniti's appeal. At the heart of the car is the new 3.5-liter VQ35HEV engine, the only hybrid engine recently listed among the "Top 10 Ward's Best Engines" by the prestigious Ward's Auto World Magazine. It provides unbeatable fuel efficiency for urban and highway driving.

The engine boasts maximum power output of 360 horsepower (240kW/6800 rpm) and maximum torque of 258 lb-ft (350Nm/5200 rpm), while a motor with two clutches drawing power from a lithium battery pack in the trunk area adds another 50kW and 199 ft-lb (270Nmin) power and torque respectively. The hybrid system is able to achieve the same level of acceleration with 30% less fuel consumption compared to a conventional VQ37 engine. The driver will not sense any loss of speed, dynamism and exhilaration in a hybrid Infiniti, yet can be proud of his or her green contribution.

The 2.5-liter VQ25 HR engine on the M25L is equally outstanding in its performance, impressively delivering max power output of 232 horsepower (173kW/6400 rpm) and max torque of 187 lb-ft (253Nm/4800 rpm). It is light, speedy and quiet, built with an aluminum-alloy cylinder head and block.

The electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with a drive-adaptive learning algorithm sense has played a positive role in further improving driving performance. It is also equipped with manual shift mode, Adaptive Shift Control (ASC), and Downshift Rev Matching, which provides faster, smoother downshifts by raising engine rpm slightly. A unique Eco Pedal System also improves fuel efficiency by 5%. The system counteracts in advance with a pedal feedback control mechanism through a tactile indicator. At the same time, the driver can constantly monitor the level of fuel-efficient driving which is indicated by the color and flashing of a lamp on a dash meter.

Wrap-Around Safety

The M35hL and the M25L create a Safety Shield that wraps the cars on all sides. Safety in front of each car is protected by the combined technologies of Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) with full speed range, Distance Control Assist (DCA) and Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA).

Lane Departure Warning (LDW)/Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), and Blind Spot Warning (BSW)/Blind Spot Intervention (BSI) provide maximum side and rear safety around the car.

Infiniti has initiated the world's first DCA and BSI technologies to further enhance safety around the car. The DCA system uses a three-fold approach to keep the driver at a safe distance behind other traffic. It provides a tactile warning through the accelerator pedal, and visual and audible warnings are also given if the driver doesn't respond. The system uses laser range sensors to detect another vehicle ahead, while a computer calculates if there is a threat present by measuring the vehicle speed, distance to the vehicle ahead and closing speed between the two vehicles.

The BSI works in synergy with BSW in the event of unintended drift. The BSW system illuminates an indicator light if another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area. If the driver then activates the turn signal, the indicator flashes and an audible warning sound. If the driver fails to respond the warning, the BSI activates selective braking to help the driver return the vehicle back toward the centre of the lane.

The LDW/LDP system works similarly as the BSW/BSI, by using a small camera installed behind the windshield to detect lane markers in front of the vehicle. Then it calculates the vehicle's position relative to those lane markers, and helps warn the driver of a potential unintended lane departure with a visual indicator and audible buzzer. If the driver does not return the vehicle back toward the center of the travel lane, the LDP system assists the driver with a gentle application of the brakes on the opposite side of the drift.

Infiniti has released pictures and details for the 2012 FX facelift, which will debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 18th.

The 2012 FX will be available in several models: FX35 RWD, FX35 AWD, FX50 AWD and the previously mentioned FX Limited Edition. The FX35 models will feature the popular VQ35HR powerplant with 303-hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The FX50 models will feature the same 5.0L V8 VK50VE engine with 390-hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to a revised seven-speed transmission.

Enhancements to the rest of the 2012 Infiniti FX line include a new exterior color, Graphite Shadow, which replaces Platinum Graphite, a new 20-inch wheel design and quilted leather climate-controlled front seats for the FX35 Deluxe Touring Package. The FX50 Sport Package now adds adaptive headlights.

This limited edition model gets a number of special features including an Iridium Blue exterior color, 21-inch alloys with a dark satin finish, tinted headlights and roof rail crossbars, aluminum pedal accents, a hard-drive based navigation system, blue piping on the floor mats, and Nissan’s Around View camera monitoring system.

Power for the 2012 Infiniti FX35 still comes from the 3.5 liter V6 making 303-hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The 2012 Infiniti FX50 goes on with its wonderful 5.0 liter V8 making 390-hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.

Inside, all 2012 Infiniti FX models get revised instrument lighting and standard heated front seats. The quilted leather, climate-controlled seats from the FX35 Premium Package are now included as part of the FX35 Deluxe Touring Package, which means that buyers get more content for the same money.

Pricing doesn't change much for 2012, with the base FX35 starting at $43,450 and the FX50 at $59,350. The new Limited Edition FX35, which comes only with all-wheel drive, will go for $51,550. According to the automaker, "popularly equipped" models wear the same price tags in 2012 as they did in 2011.

Preview: 2011 Infiniti IPL G Coupe

Infiniti today announced today the new Performance Line (IPL) and the first model in this new line: the IPL G Coupe. IPL models will be identified by a special engine cover and trunklid badging.

Dubbed IPL, the Infiniti Performance Line "offers a new level of premium performance for Infiniti vehicles, focusing not just on engine power and acceleration, but also on redefining total vehicle performance."

Power is provided by a 3.7-liter V6 engine with 348 hp (260 kW / 353 PS) and 276 lb-ft (374 Nm) of torque. It produces an extra 18 hp (13 kW / 18 PS) and 6 lb-ft (8 Nm) of torque - compared to the standard G Coupe - thanks to a high-flow exhaust and a revised ECU.

A new high-flow exhaust partners with a recalibrated ECU to raise output to 348 horsepower (at 7,400 rpm) and 276 pound-feet of torque (at 5,200 rpm), an increase of 18 hp and six pound feet over the standard G37. Channeling that additional grunt to the ground is a close ratio six-speed manual with a short-throw shifter (a seven-speed auto is available with paddles), a viscous-type limited slip differential and Bridgestone Potenza RE50A summer rubber sized 225/45 in front and 245/40 in the rear. A retuned suspension is also included, increasing spring rates by 20% in the front and 10% out back, along with slightly upgraded brakes.

Inside, the IPL offers two color treatments, Graphite and Monaco Red, the latter only available with the Malbec Black exterior and 7-speed automatic transmission. Other highlights include red-stitched leather-appointed front sport seats with manual thigh extension and driver's power torso and thigh support adjustment, red-stitched steering wheel, Silk Obi aluminum trim, and aluminum pedals and footrest.

Infiniti hasn't released an MSRP for the IPL G Coupe yet, but considering the performance components and litany of standard features, we're hoping the price premium isn't excessively high for what's essentially a glorified sport package.

The first production vehicle from this group, the 348-horsepower 2011 Infiniti Performance Line G Coupe, debuts tomorrow evening at an exclusive event at the 60th annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It joins the Infiniti line of performance luxury vehicles at Infiniti retailers nationwide in December.

The Infiniti Performance Line, or IPL, offers a new level of premium performance for Infiniti vehicles, focusing not just on engine power and acceleration, but also on redefining total vehicle performance. IPL promises unique driving attributes with exclusive designs, different from other Infiniti models in each selected Infiniti line. The 2011 IPL G Coupe is the first of what is expected to be a range of IPL performance vehicles in the future.

Infiniti Performance Line vehicles are targeted at buyers seeking performance luxury vehicles that express a greater degree of individual style. The limited production IPL vehicles begin with Infiniti’s legendary emotional design and Japanese craftsmanship – and then heighten the luxury and performance levels through modifications to the exterior, interior, engine tuning and suspension.

“IPL was conceived to create a new premium performance envelope, going beyond equipment upgrades to accelerate the very soul of Infiniti’s Inspired Performance,” said Infiniti Vice President Ben Poore. “IPL brings all the elements together, styling harmonized with performance, exhaust note with acceleration feel, ride comfort and confident handling. It’s the perfect formula for unmatched driving exhilaration.”

IPL models will be identified by a special engine cover and trunklid badging. The IPL emblem is designed to reinforce the strong message and spirit of IPL. The letter “I” features a red insert representing sporty spirit, while the Infiniti-violet “shadow” behind the letter appears like an Infiniti flag to indicate the brand’s Inspired Performance promise.

About the IPL G Coupe
The 2011 IPL G Coupe builds on the foundation of the second-generation Infiniti G Coupe rear-wheel drive model with extensive modification throughout the vehicle. The IPL G Coupe’s unique exterior includes a dramatic front and rear bumper/fascia design with integrated fog lights and black finishers, sculpted side sills, rear spoiler and chrome exhaust tips. Each part is shaped to accent the G Coupe’s aggressively seductive styling. Combined with the exclusive 19-inch IPL split 7-spoke graphite-finish wheels and low-profile W-rated Bridgestone Potenza RE50A performance tires, the IPL G Coupe projects a confident stance and road-ready attitude. The IPL G Coupe is offered in just two exterior colors: Graphite Shadow and Malbec Black.

The IPL G Coupe interior is designed to harmonize with the exterior styling, offering two color treatments – Graphite and Monaco Red (red interior only available with the Malbec Black exterior and 7-speed automatic transmission). All IPL G Coupe interiors include red-stitched leather-appointed front sport seats with manual thigh extension and driver’s power torso and thigh support adjustment, red-stitched steering wheel, Silk Obi aluminum trim, and aluminum pedals and footrest.

Other standard interior features include Infiniti Studio on Wheels by Bose® premium audio system, Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System, 9.3GB Music Box® Hard Drive, Infiniti Voice Recognition for audio navigation, memory system for driver’s seat, steering wheel and outside mirrors, RearView Monitor, Rear Sonar and moonroof (these items are optionally available on non-IPL G Coupe models).

The IPL G Coupe’s enhanced performance comes from the synergetic effects of three technology areas – engine tuning, dynamic tuning and sound quality/acceleration feel tuning. Engine performance modifications were selected not only for increased horsepower and torque levels, but also for acceleration feel and exhaust sound without compromising fuel economy or noise standards.

The IPL-tuned high-flow exhaust is a full dual exhaust design with independent left and right large diameter pipes. The muffler’s inner structure and materials have been maximized to reduce pressure and provide an appropriate performance exhaust note. The result is a 30% reduction in exhaust pressure versus a base G Coupe’s Y-pipe exhaust system design.

The IPL G Coupe’s advanced VQ37HR 3.7-liter V6 engine management system has been recalibrated through air-fuel mixture and ignition timing optimization, raising the maximum horsepower output point to 7,400 rpm (from 7,000 rpm). To obtain a natural acceleration feel, the torque curve from low revs to the maximum torque point (5,200 rpm) was tuned for linearity. As a result of both the exhaust system and engine management changes, the IPL G Coupe generates 348 horsepower – an increase of 18 horsepower over the non-IPL models – and 276 lb-ft of torque (+6 lb-ft).

“When you drive the IPL G Coupe, the first thing you notice is the surge in sound and acceleration feel. The inspiring swell of sound is in complete harmony with the acceleration feel as engine speed increases,” said Poore. “The sound is clean and inspiring, adding to the fun-to-drive sensation provided by the 348 horsepower under the hood.”

Equally inspiring is the IPL G Coupe’s dynamic vehicle performance, which focuses on providing confident handling, flat ride and smooth ride comfort. The IPL suspension tuning and damping management philosophy is designed to optimize each aspect of the suspension, effectively connecting the driver to the road surface while removing uncomfortable vibrations. Front spring rates have been increased 20% over the base G Coupe and rear spring rates increased 10%. Shock tuning has also been adjusted to reach a new premium performance standard.

The IPL G Coupe also offers a sport-tuned steering gear and large 4-wheel sport brakes with aluminum-alloy opposed calipers (4-piston front/2-piston rear) and Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD).

  • Bespoke 235 bhp piezo-injection V6 with class-leading 550Nm (406 lb ft)
    of torque
  • Still a sports car at heart – a diesel with available Rear Active
    Steering (RAS)
  • Choice of luxury GT or sporting S themes, both topped by new Premium
grades equipped as standard with every feature in Infiniti’s portfolio
  • Infiniti’s Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Prevention
    systems now available in Europe
  • FX30d prices from £45,150 – virtually the same as FX37 petrol versions
  • Orderable now with deliveries to start from July

ROLLE, Switzerland (May 6, 2010) – The Infiniti FX, one of the sportiest
driving – and certainly the sportiest looking – large crossovers on the market
is now available with a sporting new engine under the bonnet. A diesel. This
isn’t the only first for Infiniti in Europe because with the new engine comes
the availability of new safety technology: Forward Collision Warning and Lane
Departure Prevention.

Playing to the FX’s strengths, the state-of-the-art 3.0-litre V6 enhances the
FX’s already torque-rich performance while significantly lowering CO
2
emissions and fuel consumption for real customer benefit. To be called the
FX30d, the four variant range joins the FX petrol V6 and V8 models in a new look
line-up for 2010 – and at prices that are virtually identical to equivalent V6
petrol models.

Announced today, the FX30d costs from £45,150, just £200 more than the
equivalent FX37 petrol model. Available in both luxury GT and more sporting S
guises, the arrival of the diesel also marks the addition of new Premium
specification grades with every possible feature included as standard –
including the sophisticated new safety technology to help guard against
collisions, available for the first time on any Infiniti in Europe.

The FX’s advanced construction, aerodynamic prowess and highly efficient
intelligent all-wheel drive system provide the perfect accompaniment for the
bespoke new V6 diesel engine. Fuel consumption on the combined cycle is trimmed
to 31.4 mpg (9.0l/100km) while CO
2 emissions drop to 238 g/km.

The diesel FX, however, remains a performance car at heart – as the new
engine’s impressive 550 Nm (406 lb ft) of pulling power, available at just
1750rpm, demonstrates. Paired with the standard 7-speed Adaptive Shift Control
automatic transmission, the piezo-injection engine powers the greener FX from
0-62 mph in just 8.3 seconds. But with more torque than even the petrol V8 of
the FX50, it’s the diesel’s effortless overtaking pace that is set to leave the
lasting impression.

The FX’s sports credentials are enhanced in the FX30dS model which puts the
emphasis firmly on driver appeal. The S spec diesel includes 21-inch alloy
wheels, sports seats, sports suspension and Rear Active Steering (RAS) – the
first time this incisive handling technology has been available in the FX range
on anything other than the FX50 flagship.

Sacrificing neither performance nor refinement over the petrol FX, the
FX30d’s engine provides an exceptional breadth of capability. The exhaust has
even been tuned so it sounds sporting. Uniquely, the V6 features a compacted
graphite iron (CGI) block which combines the light weight of an alloy block with
the smoothness of an iron block engine – without recourse to complicated extra
engineering.

With 238 PS (235 bhp) the power output is among the highest of single-turbo
V6 diesel engines. The turbocharger is mounted in the V of the engine which is
set at an unusual 65 degree angle to the benefit of balance, reliability as well
as packaging efficiency.

The new diesel model is available in four guises, all paired by equivalent
FX37 petrol models in a simplified line-up designed to reflect a Europe-wide
customer preference for top-end FXs. In practice the change means more features,
fewer extra-cost options and a new top grade, Premium.

FX buyers can go in two specification directions: luxury GT or sporting S.
The 2010 GT, in either FX30d diesel or FX37 petrol forms, comes fully equipped
as standard with paddle-shift 7-speed automatic transmission, intelligent
all-wheel drive, leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, bi-Xenon
cornering headlights (AFS), rear view camera and parking sensors, powered front
seat adjustment (with driver’s seat memory), electric reach and rake adjustment
for steering wheel, glass sunroof, 20-inch light alloy wheels, I-Key with smart
access, cruise control, Scratch Shield self-healing paint and a 7-speaker audio
system including 6-CD changer, MP3 decoder, Aux-In and Bluetooth for mobile
connectivity.

The S derivatives ramp up the sporting appeal with powered front sports
seats, Continuous Damping Control (CDC) shock absorbers, 21-inch alloy wheels
and, on the diesel S and 5.0-litre V8 petrol only, Rear Active Steering (RAS),
which enhances both stability and agility. To distinguish the S, the model comes
with smoked-glass headlamps and dark chrome exterior air vent and sill strip.

The new Premium grade enhances both GT and S models with features which are
often unavailable in rivals. Safety is a particular focus, reinforcing the FX’s
highest-possible five-star ranking in the EuroNCAP crash tests. Both GT Premium
and S Premium versions of FX30d and FX37 are equipped with key elements of
Infiniti’s innovative Safety Shield technology such as Intelligent Cruise
Control (ICC) with full speed range, Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA), and Forward
Collision Warning (FCW).

ICC ensures a safe distance to the car in front while the cruise control is
operating. When cruise control is off – the majority of the time for most
drivers – a combination of IBA and FCW remains constantly on alert, not just
warning the driver of insufficient distance to the vehicle in front but
pre-loading the powerful all-disc braking system in readiness for an emergency
stop, should that become necessary.

Another safety bonus, for the diesel only, is the inclusion in Premium models
of Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), available in Europe for the first time.
Unlike rival systems which merely warn the driver when the car strays out of a
designated traffic lane, Infiniti’s LDP gives a warning but crucially will then
take action if that warning is not heeded. Gentle brake pressure on one side of
the car guides the vehicle back into the correct lane. LDP functions only above
70 km/h and is automatically over-ridden by use of the indicators. The system
can also be turned off by the driver if desired.

FX Premium versions are also equipped with innovations like Around View
Monitor and a 30GB hard disk drive satellite navigation system, key ingredient
of Infiniti’s headline Connectiviti+ information and entertainment platform.
Notable for its wide ranging functionality and intuitive controls, the satnav is
not just four times faster than the previous DVD-based system but includes a
wide range of features and facilities, from Michelin Guide recommendations to 3D
graphics, to take the stress out of journeys – and add some extra enjoyment,
too.

On the music front, Premium models are equipped with a 10 GB Music Box which
can store the equivalent of 300 CDs – and, as standard, a Bose
®
Premium Sound System on which to enjoy them.

As before the V8-powered FX50 remains the flagship. There are no changes to
its specification for 2010 – virtually everything was already standard – but the
model is now badged FX50 S Premium to reflect the new order.

Prices for the full range of 2010 FX models are as follows:

FX37 GT £44,950
FX30d GT £45,150

FX37 GT Premium £49,040
FX30d GT Premium £49,680

FX37 S £47,000
FX30d S £47,200

FX37 S Premium £51,090
FX30d S Premium £51,730
FX50 S Premium £56,400

The full range of both petrol and diesel-powered FX models is now available
to order from an Infiniti Centre.
